Using a Free Website Builder for a Business to Start from Home

What about those website builders out there that are free or low-cost?

They help you create a very pretty looking site - but will people come? Do they help you with anything else that will get you real, valid achievement?

Are you already familiar with using Word Press Sites, for instance. They Work the Best With SBI for WP>

But here's where I can show you a home business starter kit that builds success! Just like I used.

This could be for you! I’m not claiming this is “overnight” income.

  • But it is real, practical, and scalable - not like those Get-Rich-Quick schemes that don't fulfill their promises.
  • Will there be traffic with them? They don't automatically supply the systems I access, for a win. But you can.

Side Business Ideas at Home That I Successfully Used

I began thinking of a business to start from home around 2012, while I was still working.

I investigated that by using Google Search for at home businesses - or something similar (can't remember now!). That's when I found This Complete System I Use, and thought it looked good, but still I didn't get started yet. Guess I wasn't really ready. But I kept it in mind.

Finally, I got to it. This was mid 2014, when I began experimenting with several website ideas. Finally I created a website about Tombstone Arizona. Before long it took off, getting lots of traffic, and I began earning from it.

But then in 2018 I decided to sell the site, which I did - for a good sum. And I had the place to sell it - Right Where I Created It as My Own.

Soon after that I created a home business startup website about lakes in the Southwestern United States. It began building, but I wasn't loving it to stick with it (not good!), as I should've. So I sold that one, too.

Then I began with something that really peaked my interest in 2022. A Website About Palm Trees - a good passion of mine - and used the Online Business Building System I was still associated with. I followed the System's Step by Step Process, and soon enough my traffic was solidly building, still rising to this day.

After that I decided on an additional website to create - The One You're on Now. The traffic is steadily growing by using the exclusive home business tools I have with this plan. And I've also just begun earning from it.

Through all of the above experiences, I couldn't help but say:

I must recommend This Complete Business System to others - because it's validly the absolutely Best Online Website Business Building System of all. Follow the steps and you're sure to have success, too!

Site Build It (SBI) has always has our backs! And gives us everything we need for a successful home business. If something new arises regarding websites, search, laws, whatever - you can count on SBI giving us a way to do it right.

Quick Answer: What are the best side business ideas at home?

The best side business ideas at home are the ones that fit your schedule, don’t require a lot of money to start, and build a strong asset that can grow over time.

Examples that work well as sideline business ideas:

  1. Start a blog-style content website, on a clear topic.
  2. Affiliate marketing through helpful content (not spammy tactics)
  3. Sell digital products (checklists, guides, templates) to your readers
  4. E-commerce that supports your topic (simple, focused products)
  5. Freelancing/services (fast cash flow while your site grows)

My personal favorite that I’ve used is that first one - a content site that earns in multiple ways. And in fact, you can combine the listed i- through iv- above, as I have. And even v-, if you have something that relates to that.

The “At-Home Side Business” I Built - My Real Examples

I built a content site about palm trees, like I mentioned above.

With that specific topic, my website now has helpful pages that answer real questions people search for. Like palm care, identification, problems, varieties, landscaping, etc.

That’s the part that changed everything for me! The work I did up front kept paying back later because the website itself became a side business income asset.

Then I started a second site several years later (this one you're on). I’m sharing that because I want you to see the honest picture: new sites typically take time, but progress is real when you follow an excellent system, like I did.

The reason I like this model as a side business at home for beginners is simple:

  • You can start small.
  • You can learn as you go.
  • Your work compounds.

Why Content Sites Are One of the Best Side Business Ideas at Home

A content site is basically a helpful “library” of pages that answer questions people already have. Here’s why it’s powerful as a home business starter kit:

  • It works on your schedule. If you only have 30 minutes a day, you can still build a page-by-page business.
  • It can start lean. You don’t need inventory, a storefront, or a big social following to begin.
  • It creates long-term leverage. One useful page can bring visitors for years, not just the week you publish it.
  • It gives you multiple income options. All your eggs won't be in one basket!
  • As your traffic grows, you can build income in several ways:
  1. affiliate offers where you earn commission, sometimes by building products with the affiliate company's help.
  2. your own digital products - for which I use the perfect system for creating them (so can you!).
  3. build your email list from a newsletter that helps build your authenticity.
  4. ads, from which you can earn relatively quickly.
  5. and if you're ambitious enough get some ecommerce going.

Side Business Ideas at Home - Ranked by Beginner Friendliness

Below are the options I’d consider if I were starting from scratch looking for home business ideas today. Yet, there's a way to bundle all these upcoming methods together, when you use a step by step system - like I do.

Start a Blog/Content Site in One Clear Niche (My Top Pick)

Best for sideline business ideas for beginners who want long-term growth.

What you do:

  • pick a favorite topic (niche) you can stick with because you enjoy it lots.
  • publish pages that answer specific questions people are really asking.
  • optimize for clarity and helpfulness.
  • build trust over time.

Why it’s beginner-friendly:

  • you can learn by doing
  • you can publish imperfectly and improve later
  • you don’t need to be “an expert,” but you must be keen on your niche topic and genuinely helpful

Affiliate Marketing - Best When It’s Content-Based

Best for people who prefer recommending tools/resources instead of creating products first. In my experience, affiliate marketing works best when:

  • the information you provide is helpful even without the affiliate link.
  • the affiliate link is truly relevant to the page topic.
  • you clearly disclose that it’s an affiliate link.

Examples: A “how to start a content site” page can naturally recommend a platform that helps beginners do affiliate marketing the right way. Or perhaps a "side business ideas for women" page if it somehow relates to your topic.

Digital Products - Simple First Products Win

Best for people who like packaging knowledge with your small business ideas.

Great starter digital products:

  • checklists
  • short guides (10–30 pages)
  • templates (spreadsheets, planners, scripts)
  • mini-courses

There's an easy way to decide what to create among all the work from home business opportunities. You'd look at your most-visited pages, asking “What would save my reader time right now?”

Small, Focused E-commerce - Only If It Fits the Niche

Best for niches for work from home businesses where a simple product truly helps.

This can work beautifully when it’s aligned with your website content. But I recommend starting with content first, because the content creates traffic and trust. And that makes selling easier later.

Freelancing/Services for Fastest Cash Flow

Best for people who need income sooner.

Freelancing can fund your long-term content site while you build it. If you’re short on time or money, this “hybrid” approach can reduce stress. But only if you're not short on the time you have available. Plus with the freelancing options you can coordinate with your website, as well.

The problem for this quick cash flow is: do you already have knowledge of a service for which you can quickly develop a side hustle business by promoting your freelancing offers?

How I Started This Side Business at Home
By using A Simple 7-Step Plan

If you want a clear plan, you can follow what I’ve done as I perused side business ideas for women:

Step 1: Pick a niche topic you love, so you can easily live with for 2 years. You want to build momentum.

Step 2: Write down 25 questions people ask in that niche. Real questions. Not broad topics. (Hint: see Google's "people also ask" and "people also search for.") I did that so easily with the system I use.

Solo Build It!

Step 3: Create 5 “starter pages” that answer those questions thoroughly. Focus on being genuinely helpful, clear, and specific. Still, you might wonder - will they work to get traffic? I can show you how that happened on my websites.

Step 4: Publish website pages consistently - even 1 page/week is fine. Slow and steady (like the turtle proverb) beats “two weeks of hustle and quitting.”

Step 5: Add a simple internal linking structure. You can learn to link related pages to each other so visitors (and search engines) can find more of your content pages. And I can show you how - no html or involved computer tech needed.

Step 6: Monetize in the right sequence with a simple order that often works:

  • start with affiliate offers that truly fit
  • add a digital product once you know what readers need
  • consider ecommerce only if it strengthens the niche

Step 7: Improve pages that already get impressions and traffic. Many people only publish new content. Here's one secret I work with: lots of growth comes from upgrading existing pages. You can see how we do that easily!

The Platform I Use to Build Content Sites - And Why

I use Site Build It (SBI) to build my content sites. Why did I choose, and now recommend that method? I prefer an all-in-one approach to work from home business ideas, because beginners don’t just need “a website builder.”

What's needed for success it's best to have a complete process for:

  • choosing the right niche when evaluating side business ideas at home
  • planning content that best matches what people search for - and gets found when people search
  • building a website without tech headaches
  • staying consistent long enough to get results

FAQs: Side Business Ideas at Home

What’s the easiest side business to start from home?

For long-term leverage, a content website is one of the most straightforward because you can build it page by page. And The System I Use takes you through what needs to be done, step by step. With assistance and help around every virtual corner!

But if you need fast income, freelancing can be the easiest - if you have a skill you can offer.

Do I need to be an expert to start a blog/content site?

No. But you do need to be honest, do your research, and focus on helping the reader. Over time, you will learn and become more knowledgeable Simply by Publishing Consistently. I have done that myself.

How long does it take to earn income from a content site?

It varies by niche topic and your consistency. There's no set rule, because there's no such thing as a "Get-Rich-Quick" opportunity. Once you've completed a base of initial web pages, there are methods to get some income coming in.

The key idea is that content sites compound: the work you do early can keep producing results later. And we know many people who Earn Income This Way Using a Content Site.

Can a stay-at-home parent or retiree really do this?

Yes! Because that can happen when you use A Flexible Business Model - Like We Do.

  • You can build it in small sessions.
  • You don’t need to take a time-consuming commute to your work
  • You don't need inventory, or client meetings to publish content.
  • But you can use online meetings to get your questions answered. Plus you can have help and tips from others who have had success.
