Two Notable Spots for Concerts & Live Shows:

Club Congress: This historic venue on Congress Street downtown is inside Hotel Congress has live music and DJs. According to Curtis McCrary, who's in charge of bringing in acts, they gather those who present an "eclectic spirit with which booking has traditionally taken place here at this club over 40 years."

Rialto Theatre: Longstanding downtown music venue with a curious history. They regularly bring in current talent, and a motley assortment, with a music scene with national and local acts.

Tucson’s bar scene is wonderfully variable.

Choose what you'd like among classic dive bars where locals meet, to craft cocktail lounges. Many are clustered in downtown Tucson, plus along 4th Avenue. But that's not all - you'll find great pubs for socializing scattered throughout town.

The Shelter: Cocktail lounge in a round building. We went here once (kinda far from our home), and we loved its quirky kind of vibe. 4155 E Grant Rd. 520-326-1345.

Casa Film Bar: One of a kind bar with film theme and relaxed vibe. They were here way back, as a video store! Now they combine libations and movies. 2905 E Speedway Blvd. 520-326-6314.

Cobra Arcade Bar Tucson: Adult arcade bar, opens 4pm (Closed Mondays). arcade games, great for groups. They rotate their collection of vintage arcade games, including pinball. Downtown at Congress & Scott. 520-499-3999.

Chela’s Latin Cuisine: Dining by day, dancing by night every Friday and Saturday at 10 PM. When the restaurant becomes Chela's Nightclub! Make your moves on their transformed energetic dance floor, with DJ Conejo providing the Reggae, Salsa (etc) beats. Downtown,  256 E Congress St. 520-867-6096.

Sky Bar Tucson: Something quite different to check out, as they say it's a "Solar powered cafe by day, astronomy bar by night." 536 N 4th Ave, 520-622-4300.

Owls Club: Western flavored bar in Armory Park area of downtown at 236 S. Scott Ave. Music, drinks, and a fun crowd. Tues-Sat, opens at 5pm, Sundays at 7pm. 520-207-5678

Che’s Lounge: Lively local favorite on 4th Avenue, corner of 7th. Been there, humming and hopping, for what seems like forever. Open from noon to 2am, every day. 520-623-2088.

Playground Bar & Lounge: Connected with the Hub, in the heart of downtown. One of Tucson’s most popular spots, with a stunning rooftop bar. Dance out there, or go indoors. The place to be for Top 40 hits and a spirited weekend crowd.

LUST DWTN: Nicknamed "The Neighborhood Rooftop," they ask you to "embrace the lust within" at this rooftop club. Try your sexy moves in this sleek, modern atmosphere. The Wreck: A dance and night club in a neighborhood east of downtown at 136 North Park. Billing themselves as the place that "brings the South to the West Coast" and where you'll find "sexy Southern fun!"

O'Malleys On Fourth: Popular Fourth Avenue spot bills itself as a sports bar. But they're known to attract a dancing crowd. Been here quite awhile. Mon-Fri opens at 5pm, Sat-Sun from 1pm; always closes 2am. 247 N 4th Ave. 520-623-8600

  • Downtown Tucson (Along Congress) and 4th Avenue are the main Tucson AZ nightlife districts, with most of the action.
  • Dance clubs are for the late-night dancing partiers. Usually hitting their peak crowd after 11 p.m. To get a good spot, go a little earlier than that, to arrive at your chosen place to enjoy Tucson AZ nightlife.
  • Making plans for a downtown club? Parking can be tricky for heading downtown on a Saturday night, the busiest time of all. Instead, why not use Uber, Lyft, or a taxi?

What area has the most nightlife in Tucson?

Downtown Tucson is the primary nightlife district. A few more areas are ready for those going for a night on the town:

  • Like along Fourth Avenue, 
  • Over on the east side Tanque Verde Road, west of Grant Road. 
  • Plus the Foothills Mall, where there's bar/restaurants, movie theater with a bar, and the country themed Whiskey Roads.

What time do bars close in Tucson?

By state law, bars in Tucson must close up shop by 2am. But there's lots of Tucson AZ nightlife to be had before that closing time.

Is Tucson nightlife walkable?

Yes, there are two walkable areas for getting into the Tucson nightlife.

  • Downtown has many bars, clubs, restaurants, Live Music and Theater Shows. All along Congress Street, the "main drag" in town. Sidewalks on each side, with crosswalks at appropriate places. So you can explore anything that might strike your fancy.
  • Fourth Avenue is very walkable, with quirky bars and other night spots along the street. Sidewalks and crosswalks. Anywhere between 9th-St. & 4th-St.
  • If you want to hop around you can easily do both these areas by getting on The Sunlink Trolley. The route goes from downtown to Fourth Avenue, and it's free to ride.

Are there country bars in Tucson?

Yes there are.

The Maverick on Tanque Verde is likely the most popular. But there's also Whiskey Roads on the northwest side of town on Ina. And for a spirited neighborhood country bar there's The Outlaw Bar and Grill on Roger, about northern side's midtown.

Is Tucson nightlife tourist-friendly?

Yes, normally speaking - as Tucson is a friendly town overall. Many tourists come to Tucson year-round (some even in the summer!), and the people here are cordial and welcoming. They know tourists help the town's economy, after all!

But like anywhere, just be careful of interacting with anyone who's over-imbibed. That might trigger something unwanted.

What is the best night to go out in Tucson?

There are 2 ways to look at which is the best night for Tucson's nightlife entertainment.

  • Weeknight nightlife is a good option for reduced crowds and specialty entertainment and specials designed to get people to come to their place. 
  • Early evenings are a good time to go out in Tucson. Nearly every bar has a happy hour, usually from 3-5pm. And if they serve food they may have early bird specials.
  • But if you Like the Crowd Scene, Saturday nights are busiest. While Friday nights are nearly so. Wednesdays are typically the busiest nights midweek.
